I got burned on friend’s oven, Is this covered under their home owner’s insurance?
I was burned on frien’d oven. It was a second degree burn, and I was taken to emergency room. I do NOT have health insurance. Is this covered under THEIR home owners insurance? If not, what could it be covered under? Help.
Answer:
They most likely have a provision under their homeowners policy called “medical expense reimbursement”. This is when a visitor (you) comes on the property and is injured due to no negligence of the homeowners. If there actually was negligence involved then you would have to file a claim under the liability portion of their policy. Under the medical expense reimbursement you have no option for pain and suffering…JUST medical bills. One thing to keep in mind, the medical expense reimbursement is a nominal amount…usually only 00 – 00 so if your injury was major, you will still have to file a claim and prove negligence. Hope this helped.
i dont think so but i might be wrong
You could technically sue them because once you enter there home you become a liability but other than that,no.
Uhh, if you went to the emergency room you aren’t required to have insurance. They should have treated it there. Go out and get yourself some cotton wrap and neosporin and you’ll be fine.
Ps, just wondering, how do you get second degree burns from an oven? I work in a kitchen every day and have burnt myself numerous times but never have I received second degree burns…

Was the stove malfunctioning? If not then the bill is yours. Homeowners are only liable when the accident/mishap occurs due to poor upkeep. You making the mistake of touching a hot stove was not their fault and their insurance should not take a hit because of it.
I don’t think it’s covered. As an adult you’re supposed to have sense enough to avoid a hot oven unless the home owner tossed it at you. In the latter case you may file assault charges against him/her.
Homeowners usually covers some medical expenses for guests. The company may deny the claim in which case you will have to sue in small claims court to get a judgment.
It depends on whether or not your friends were negligent in any way. You do not describe how you managed to get burned on their oven to the point that you required emergency room treatment. If this burn came from a stupid movement on your part, their insurance will not cover the expenses. The costs are yours to bear.
They’ll have a small amount of “no fault” medical payments coverage, that will apply, as long as you don’t live there.
If you need more care than their no fault coverage, you’ll have to sue the friend, and prove that they CAUSED your burn injury. It’s not enough that it happened at their house.
Not usually.
If your friend did something negligent (like accidentally pushing you into the oven), such that the injury was your friend’s fault, then maybe.
If it was your own fault, then no. It would not be covered under anything. Injuries to a person who does not have health insurance are not covered under anything, unless someone else caused the injury.
Pay for it on your own and get some health insurance.
